Johnny Van Zant in the 80's

It is in 2 parts and it is from my personal collection. It is from a Vinyl record that I bought from a vendor in a collector’s magazine called Goldmine in the early 90′s. It aired in June of 1988. There aren’t any unreleased songs on this show, although at the time, Need all my Friends and the live Gimmie Back My Bullets weren’t available to the general public. This show is good for its interviews. You’ll hear a terrific interview with Leon, great early band stories with Gary, Billy is interviewed and offers a couple of hilarious stories about the band’s partying, especially blowing up tv’s in the hotel room! Johnny talks about the band’s set and about stepping in for Ronnie on the tour. Artimus has some great stories too, I love how he knew exactly how long he was in the Marines. Too funny. Ed King is brutally honest about his Strawberry Alarm Clock days and does a nice job recalling his early days with Skynyrd. When the show is over, the record closes with a good segue of classic Skynyrd songs and some clips from the interviews that radio stations could use to promote this show. There is no question, Gary’s comments about how this is only a tribute band and they aren’t starting over are very interesting indeed!
