CORRECTION:

I had previously posted that Cassie Gaines was the first original Honkette, because I had read it on the internet that she was (though I can't remember the source-just that it was someone who was WRONG!!) :x

I am now retracting that statement, because according to the Lynyrd Skynyrd biography (posted in the general talk forum) Cassie was NOT the first Honkette.

Below is the quote concerning the order in which the Honkettes joined the band:

"Another major change in Skynyrd's approach was their decision to record with (and later, tour with) a trio of female backing singers. The first two to be hired were Leslie Hawkins and Memphis resident Jo Jo Billingsley. The band had two, but wanted another singer. Jo Jo suggested her friend Cassie Gaines and the Honkettes (as they became known) were together. Cassie came to the band as a graduate from Memphis State University."

(Sorry for giving you the wrong info the first time. I hate it when that happens. Like I said before, learn something new every day...)

Embarrassing as this is for me (to produce the wrong information on NATIONAL INTERNET) it's also a GOOD THING!!

Isn't it amazing how even thirty years later, we are still learning about this band, and how no one ever gets tired of talking about them?! :D

Look at ALL the Lynyrd Skynyrd sites all over the internet.
They're everywhere!

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the TRUE AMERICAN LEGEND from the gator country...Them good ol' boys from the Florida/Georgia line. (Right close to the queenie's necka the woods, btw!)

And I for one, am DAMN PROUD of 'em!

"Well now I dig you Georgia Peaches...
Makes me feel right at Home..."
"Well now I dig you Georgia Peaches...
Makes me feel right at Home..."
"But I don't love me no one woman..."
"So I can't stay in Georgia long!"
"Yeah now they calllll me the breeze..."
"I keep blowin down the road..."

On the recent rememberance gig at the 'Jug' 19th oct. 2007. Nuthin' Fancy' made Skynyrd come to life. I remember listening to the backing singers thinking that they sound mighty fine, n' picturing the original 'Honkettes' up on stage. Had the pictures in my head n' the sounds in my ears. Good enough.
Had to pay respects to the lady.
